Doing It All

Have you ever had that feeling that you want to do everything but once you sign up for all of it, you wanna just crawl up in a ball and hide? Well, I sometimes feel that way. I just recently ran the Nike Women's Half Marathon (which is quite an accomplishment for me as I have never been the athletic type). I was so sick before the race because I didn't know what to expect. That and I have never in my life ever run 13.1 miles. This is what it looked like when we started at 7am. It was freezing.

Anyways, I was running with Sandra for the first 2 miles, but I lost her after mile 2. The first 6 miles were a breeze until I got to the dreaded 7th mile which was all uphill into the Presidio. It was probably the MOST beautiful run I've ever done in my life. And the sad thing is that it's right across the bridge.

Anyways, at mile 7, I met a girl named Anna, whose boyfriend broke up with her a month before the race. She said he kicked her out of their apartment and threw away her shoes. How rude! I ran with her until mile 11 and finished strong. I finished in 2.57 hours. My pace was 13.32 minutes per mile (considering I actually walked up all the hills...there were 3 major ones).

All in all, I learned that people have different motivations for doing everything in their life. Whether it be running for themselves, running for someone else, or running because they're bored. Through the whole process, I learned that my motivation was just to know that I could run that many miles. And I did.
